Requirements
Who can apply
We welcome applications from experienced teachers, subject specialists, graduates and current students with strong subject knowledge. You must:
- Be 18 or over
- Be authorized to work in the United States
- Have strong knowledge of the subjects and levels you want to teach
- Pass a criminal background check and sex offender registry search to teach learners under 18
- Have a reliable internet connection and a quiet space, if you’ll teach online
Teaching qualifications and experience help, but they aren’t essential for every subject. Tell us about your background and we’ll take it into account.

How the application works
Step 1: Apply online
Create an account and tell us about your subjects, experience and availability.
Step 2: We review
A member of our team reads every application. If it’s a good fit, we invite you to a short interview.
Step 3: Checks
We check your identity, work authorization and qualifications, and run a background check if you’ll teach learners under 18.
Step 4: Start teaching
Once approved, we start matching you with learners who need your subjects.
Pay and fees
How you’re paid
- No fees. It’s free to apply, and we never charge you to work with us.
- Set hourly pay.We pay $10–$30 per hour, depending on the level you teach.
- We collect payment from learners, so you never have to chase money.
- Independent contractor. You work with us as an independent contractor and are responsible for your own taxes. We send tax forms (such as a 1099) where required.

Tutor FAQs
What do I need to apply?
You must be 18 or over, be authorized to work in the United States and have strong knowledge of the subjects you want to teach. To teach learners under 18, you must also pass a criminal background check.
Will I be an employee?
Tutors work with us as independent contractors. We find learners, handle bookings and payments, and pay you for the lessons you teach. You’re responsible for your own taxes, and we send tax forms where required.
How much will I be paid?
We pay tutors a set hourly rate for each lesson taught. Current rates are on our pricing page. There are no fees to join or to work with us.
How long does the application take?
The online form takes about 15 minutes. We review every application by hand and aim to reply within 5 business days. If it looks like a good fit, we’ll invite you to a short interview and ask for your documents.
Which documents will you ask for?
After we’ve reviewed your application, we’ll email you to request proof of identity, work authorization and qualifications, and your consent for a background check where needed. You don’t need to upload anything when you apply.
Can I choose my own hours?
Yes. You tell us when you are available, and we only offer you lessons that fit.
