How it works
From first request to first lesson
We keep it simple. You tell us what the learner needs, we find the right tutor, and lessons start at a time that suits you.

The steps
Four steps to the right tutor
Step 1: Send a request
Answer a few questions about the subject, level, lesson format, the learner and their goals. It takes about five minutes.
Step 2: We find your match
Our team looks for a tutor who teaches the right subject and level, is free when you are and, for in-person lessons, is close enough to travel.
Step 3: Meet your tutor
We introduce you and arrange the first lesson. It’s a chance to talk about goals and for the tutor to see where the learner is.
Step 4: Learn and review
Lessons continue at the frequency you choose. You can change the schedule, pause or switch tutor by talking to us.
What to expect
What makes our tutoring different
Every part of the process is designed around one learner and one tutor.
Matching, not browsing
You don’t need to compare dozens of profiles. We use what you tell us to suggest a tutor who fits.
One price per level
You pay us a set hourly price based on the level of study. No haggling, and no surprises. See pricing.
Support when you need it
If something isn’t working, our team is here to help, whether that’s a scheduling change or a new tutor.
The first lesson
Getting off to a good start
The first lesson is about getting to know each other. The tutor will ask about the learner’s goals, what they find easy and hard, and how they like to learn. Many tutors use a short, relaxed activity to see where to begin.
It helps to have to hand:
- Recent work, reports or feedback, if the learner is working toward a goal or exam
- Test dates and target scores, for test prep
- Any dates that matter, such as exams or auditions
- For online lessons, a laptop or tablet with a camera, microphone and a quiet space
Online or in person
Choosing a lesson format
Online
Video lessons from home. You get the widest choice of tutors and no travel time.
In person
The tutor meets the learner at home or another agreed place. Availability depends on tutors near you.
Safety tips
Keeping lessons safe
- Keep communication with your tutor through us, or through channels a parent can see for learners under 18.
- For online lessons, use a shared space in the home rather than a bedroom.
- For younger children, make sure an adult is at home during lessons.
- Never share bank details or payment directly with a tutor. All payments go through us.
- If anything worries you, tell us straight away.
Questions
Common questions
How long does it take to be matched?
We aim to get back to you within 1 business day. It can take longer for less common subjects or for in-person lessons in some areas, and we’ll keep you updated if it does.
Can I choose my tutor?
We choose the tutor for you, so you don’t have to compare profiles. If you have preferences, such as experience with a particular exam board, mention them in your request and we’ll take them into account.
What if the tutor isn’t the right fit?
Tell us. Getting on well with a tutor matters, and we’ll suggest someone else if you’d like to try a different tutor.
Who should create the account for a child?
For learners under 18, a parent or guardian aged 18 or over must create the account and make the request. You manage the arrangements, and we contact you, not your child.
Do you teach adults?
Yes. Many of our subjects are open to adult learners, whether you are studying for a qualification, improving skills for work or learning for interest.
Ready to get started?
Tell us what you need and we’ll match you with a tutor. It takes a few minutes and there’s no obligation.
