Math tutoring

Clear explanations and plenty of practice, from multiplication tables to calculus.

About math lessons

Math builds on itself, so a small gap early on can make later topics feel much harder. A one-to-one tutor can find exactly where things stopped making sense and rebuild from there.

Lessons move at the learner’s pace, with worked examples, practice problems and regular check-ins so progress is easy to see.

What lessons can cover

  • Number sense and mental math
  • Fractions, decimals, percentages and ratios
  • Pre-algebra, Algebra 1 and Algebra 2
  • Geometry and trigonometry
  • Precalculus
  • Word problems and test strategies

Every learner is different, so your tutor will tailor lessons to the learner’s goals.

Questions

Math tutoring FAQs

Can a tutor help with homework as well as filling gaps?

Yes. Many learners bring current homework to lessons. A good tutor uses it to spot the underlying gaps, so the learner can tackle similar problems on their own.

My child says they are “just bad at math.” Can tutoring help?

Very often, yes. Confidence usually improves once gaps are filled and the learner has a few early wins. Tutors start with what the learner can already do and build from there.

Are lessons online or in person?

Either. Online lessons take place over video, so you can learn from anywhere in the U.S. In-person lessons depend on a suitable tutor being available near you. You can choose either option when you request a tutor.

How long is each lesson?

A standard lesson is one hour. If a shorter or longer session would suit the learner better, let us know when you request a tutor.

What does it cost?

You pay us a set hourly price that depends on the learner’s level, rather than negotiating with each tutor. See our pricing page for details.
